What is a jig?
In woodworking one of the most useful tools we can make ourselves is a pattern or template. A jig is simply a device that holds our work and guides another tool to either cut, drill, or shape our project in a controlled and repeatable way. Sometimes we need to be able to make accurate and identical pieces over and over again. From the most simplest of woodworking jigs you can make yourself to the more sophisticated jigs for dovetailing, if you’re going to be a serious woodworker, sooner or later you’ll need to find a jig that will solve your woodworking problem.
